Ora Mystica * Mystic Mouth
Experimenting with voices, experimenting with time, resonating with the place, with its temporalities and what constitutes it; thus goes the alchemical work of Eugénie De Mey & Michaël|le Grébil Liberg, two musicians with many faces, combining medieval and contemporary music, creation and recreation through their voices, head voice, chest voice, a music box, a bowed vielle, a cetera øscurå I…
The duo MNÉMØSYNE offers an homage to both medieval and contemporary mysticism. In a moment of transition between night and day, when the light retreats to follow the darkness, two intertwined temporalities appear. The first focuses on medieval music and mysticism, particularly through the figure of Hadewijch of Antwerp or the medieval offices dedicated to Saint Guidon of Anderlecht.
The second temporality weaves its path closer to us, towards the American music of the second half of the 20th century. The mystical question returns as an exploration of the absolute nature of sound and musical form, in the works of John Cage, Morton Feldman, James Tenney, Ornette Coleman…
These intertwined temporal strands, in the dialogue between two voices, become an image: that of the mystical mouth singing since the dawn of time.
And she still sings Jenseits der Menschen.
